Zkoumání a abstrahování krajiny až na hranici znaku, stejně jako niterné prožitky přírody, živlů a propojení s nimi v univerzální jednotě, dovedly Karla Malicha na konci 60. let k úvahám o vnitřním a vnějším rozměru prostoru, o energiích a pohybech, o proměně tvaru v ubíhajícím čase i o vztahu člověka a vesmíru.
V první polovině 70. let začíná vytvářet drátěné objekty, které jsou – stejně jako Mrak – vlastně kresbami rozvinutými v prostoru. Jejich vznik ovlivnily zážitky z letu do Itálie, na jejichž základě Malich v kresbách zachytil pohled z letadla, pobřeží s mraky, mraky samotné a vytvořil i jejich prostorové modely. Nesnažil se v nich však zachytit skutečnost – to, co ho zajímalo, bylo transformované vidění přírodních sil a vztahů, vibrující energie, proudění vzduchu, abstraktní tvar tvořený volně formovanými silokřivkami, nabízejícími nekonečné možnosti proměn a improvizací.
Karel Malich vystudoval pražskou Akademii. Východiskem jeho solitérní tvorby byla krajina, zprvu realistická, postupně víc a víc abstrahovaná. Od skutečnosti viděného se v prostorových objektech i pastelech posouval k záznamu spirituálních událostí a vidění, propojujících osobní rovinu s kosmickou. Zdroje jeho jedinečného solitérního díla lze najít v mimořádné citlivosti a schopnosti mysticky prožívat nejběžnější přírodní události.

In the late 1960s, Karel Malich’s exploration of the landscape and its reduction to abstract signs, along with his intimate experience of nature and the elements and his sense of connection with them in universal unity, led him to consider the inner and outer dimensions of space, energies and movements, the transformation of form over time and the relationship between man and the universe.
In the first half of the 1970s, Malich began to create wire objects which, like Cloud, are actually drawings in three dimensions. He was inspired to make them while on a flight to Italy, when he captured the view from the plane, the coastline with clouds and the clouds themselves in drawings, on the basis of which he later created three-dimensional models. His aim was nevertheless not to capture reality; he was interested in a transformed vision of natural forces and relationships, vibrating energy, the flowing of air, an abstract shape composed of loosely formed lines of force that offered endless possibilities of transformation and improvisation.
Karel Malich graduated from Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts. Working mostly outside established groups and movements, he produced art inspired by the landscape, at first realistic but more and more abstract over time. In his three-dimensional objects and pastels, he moved from the reality of the visible world towards the recording of spiritual events and visions that connect the personal with the cosmic. The fundamental source of his unique body of work can be found in his great sensitivity and ability to mystically experience the most ordinary events in nature.
